Acts: The Spread of the Gospel

This study is taken from John MacArthur's "Acts: The Spread of the Gospel." My prayer and goal for this devo is that we will learn more about how the early church laid the foundation for what we possess today, and that we would allow God to use us to turn our world upside for Him!

This will be an exciting journey, so encourage others to join you! I'm looking forward to the interaction we will have on this blog as we study the book of Acts!

The devos will differ in format from day to day, but two things are constant: 1) a daily reading, and 2) additional Scripture passages that are in bold. Be sure to read any and all of the readings/bold verses that appear so that you can see the full picture of what is taught that day.

Remember, you can access any of the previous devos that have been posted from the "Blog Archive" section on the left side of this page.

Message to the Churches, Part 2 - Part 2 - Devo for 01/13/2009

Reading
Revelation 3:1-22

Keys to the Text
Book of Life: This is the first mention of this divine journal. This book records the names of all those whom God has chosen to save and who, therefore, are to possess eternal life (13:8; 17:8; 20:12, 15; 21:27; 22:19). Under no circumstances will God erase those names, as city officials often did of undesirable people on their rolls.

Jesus Christ: Revelation makes it clear that Jesus is the "Alpha and Omega," the "Beginning and the End." He is the "Beginning" (literally "beginner, originator, initiator") of creation and the "firstborn of creation;" that is, the most preeminent, supreme person ever born (Colossians 1:15). As a man, he had a beginning, but as God, He was the beginning. Sadly, in Laodicea the heresy that Christ was just a created being had produced an unregenerate church.

1. How does a person get their name in the Book of Life?

2. Why is it important to understand that Jesus Christ was 100% God, 100% man?

1. By asking God to save them and believing in Him.

2. Because if we dont understand that he is 100% God then we will have doubts in our walk and if we dont understand that he was 100% man, then we would trust him because we wouldnt think he knows what we go trhough. It is important to grasp this concept completely because if we don't we will stumble and fail in our Christian walk.

1. How does a person get their name in the Book of Life?

By excepting Jesus Christ as their lord and savior and knowing that he died on the cross for your sins, and admitting your a sinner.
NOT BY "LIVING A GOOD LIFE"

2. Why is it important to understand that Jesus Christ was 100% God, 100% man?

Becuase He was a normal man because he knew the temptations that we ALL face but his 100% God is showed in that he never sinned.

1. by asking Jesus into their hearts and to be their Lord and savior. to put their faith and trust in Him.

2. it just shows that God is so perfect, that even as a man He still cannot sin. also, if he came down to earth to save us just 100% God and not 100% man then it wouldnt be as special. God showed how much he loves us by going through all the pain a human would have felt.
