Acts: The Spread of the Gospel
This study is taken from John MacArthur's "Acts: The Spread of the Gospel." My prayer and goal for this devo is that we will learn more about how the early church laid the foundation for what we possess today, and that we would allow God to use us to turn our world upside for Him!
This will be an exciting journey, so encourage others to join you! I'm looking forward to the interaction we will have on this blog as we study the book of Acts!
The devos will differ in format from day to day, but two things are constant: 1) a daily reading, and 2) additional Scripture passages that are in bold. Be sure to read any and all of the readings/bold verses that appear so that you can see the full picture of what is taught that day.
Remember, you can access any of the previous devos that have been posted from the "Blog Archive" section on the left side of this page.

A Vision of Christ in Heaven - Part 5 - Devo for 01/23/2009
Revelation 4:1-5:14
Going Deeper
The Old Testament prophet Ezekiel experienced amazing visions of living creatures similar to John's vision. Read Ezekiel 1:4-14, 26-28.
Exploring the Meaning
1. Compare the picture of the living creatures and the man on the throne in Ezekiel 1 with John's vision in Revelation 4-5. What similarities do you find?
2. What feeling do you get when you read these descriptions of symbolic heavenly scenes? What is the tone?
3. What do you learn about worship from these passages?
4. Read Matthew 17:6. What is the common posture of those who witness the glory of God? Why?
(Verses to consider: Genesis 17:3; Joshua 5:14; Ezekiel 44:4; Acts 9:4)
5. Read Psalm 96:1-4. Many scenes in Revelation are filled with praise and singing. What part does singing praises play in worshipping God? Why is it such an integral part?
(Verses to consider: Judges 5:3; 2 Chronicles 5:13; Nehemiah 12:46; Psalm 7:17; 9:1-2; 40:3;146:2; Isaiah 42:10; Acts 16:25; Ephesians 5:19; Revelation 14:3)
3 comments:
1. They both describe Jesus cover or with fire, and the cherubim with faces and wings. They both also mention the 4 faces (human, lion, eagle and calf).
2. The tone is very respectful and admiring. When I read this I feel kind of scared of these great creatures. They are unimaginable.
3. God is worthy of all worship. We should always worship him.
4. They all fell down and were afraid. They were just so amazed at what they heard, its just so astounding.
5. Singing praise is a great part of worship. It is important because it is our way of praising him and is also a way to tell others about Him.
1. They both mention the 4 faces.
2. That i will get to see them when i get to heaven, the tone is unbelieveable.
3. That you should always worship God.
4. They will fall on thier faces before him because they were so amazed.
5. So you can learn more about God from a song it is a integral part because then you can tell other people about him in song.
1.well he talked about in revelation seeing an ox, lion, man-like creature and a eagle and so did Ezekiel.
2.its kind of confusing and hard to comprehend, but its all amazing at the same time. i guess for me its one of those things you just have to see for yourself:)
3.i realized that it shouldn't matter what other think of me when i praise the Lord because hen i reach Heaven i will be constantly be worshiping him there; also that i need to worship him more because it is very important.
4.they didn't think twice about falling before him, they just were awed and fell in amazement. it seemed just to be one of their reactions and that they really loved God.
5.everyone likes music and i believe that God made us like music because He also enjoys it. people just like music a lot:)
