Acts: The Spread of the Gospel

This study is taken from John MacArthur's "Acts: The Spread of the Gospel." My prayer and goal for this devo is that we will learn more about how the early church laid the foundation for what we possess today, and that we would allow God to use us to turn our world upside for Him!

This will be an exciting journey, so encourage others to join you! I'm looking forward to the interaction we will have on this blog as we study the book of Acts!

The devos will differ in format from day to day, but two things are constant: 1) a daily reading, and 2) additional Scripture passages that are in bold. Be sure to read any and all of the readings/bold verses that appear so that you can see the full picture of what is taught that day.

Remember, you can access any of the previous devos that have been posted from the "Blog Archive" section on the left side of this page.

A Traitor? Not Me! - Part 3 - Devo for 06/18/08

Reading
John 13:36-38 (revisit vv. 21-35 as well)

Responsive Questions
1. Do you think Peter's declaration in verse 37 comes from pride or from sincerity? Explain why you came to that conclusion.
2. Three people stand out in this passage - Jesus, Judas, and Peter. What one character quality of each - good or evil - makes the greatest impression on you?
3. What can you do to avoid the failures and to follow after the strengths of each main character?

Applying Chapter 13 in Your Life
1. Ask God to examine your heart and reveal to you any areas of spiritual weakness or vulnerability in your life. Pray for a strong faith that will keep you from turning away from the Lord in a crisis.
2. On a scale of 1 (low) to 10 (exceptional), how does your life compare to the standard of love Jesus spells out in verses 34 and 35?
3. What can you do to increase that score?

Hola from Spain!

1.I think it was kind of both.I think that he probably wanted to be willing to give up his life, but might have been bragging a little bit.I came to that conclusion because that is probably what I would have done to a certain extent.

2.Jesus was good in His reaction to Judas and is an example of how I should treat others in that type of situation,Peter was impetuous and blurted things out without thinking, I think, and Judas was bad in that He betrayed Jesus even after he was warned.
3.Keep myself focused.

I just wanted to say hi.I am having a good time, but some things are really different like it is light outside until almost eleven o´clock.See ya!

Responsive Questions
1. Pride, because that is how I would have said it.

2. Jesus responded so well to Judas which is dificult for me to do. Peter should have thought first before saying things that he new that he could not do. Judas betrayed Jesus after all that he had seen Jesus do.

3. Stay focused on what Christ would do.
