Acts: The Spread of the Gospel

This study is taken from John MacArthur's "Acts: The Spread of the Gospel." My prayer and goal for this devo is that we will learn more about how the early church laid the foundation for what we possess today, and that we would allow God to use us to turn our world upside for Him!

This will be an exciting journey, so encourage others to join you! I'm looking forward to the interaction we will have on this blog as we study the book of Acts!

The devos will differ in format from day to day, but two things are constant: 1) a daily reading, and 2) additional Scripture passages that are in bold. Be sure to read any and all of the readings/bold verses that appear so that you can see the full picture of what is taught that day.

Remember, you can access any of the previous devos that have been posted from the "Blog Archive" section on the left side of this page.

The Son is Up! - Part 2 - Devo for 08/01/08

Reading
John 20:19-31 (read this passage today and tomorrow)

Responsive Questions
1. When Jesus appears to his disciples, what specific gifts and promises does he give them (vv. 19-23)?
2. What do you think is the significance of each gift or promise?
3. Finally, Jesus appears to Thomas (vv. 24-29). How does Thomas' attitude - both before and after Jesus appears to him - add credibility to the resurrection?
4. How does Thomas' exclamation "My Lord and my God" (v. 28) provide a fitting climax to John's Gospel?

1. He offered them peace, the Holy Spirit and the ability fro salvation.
2. He offered them peace to know that He was risen from the dead and abides with them. He gave them the Hoky Spirit so that they can have salvation.
3. Thomas doubted that Jesus was alive and said he would only believe if he saw physical proof. I think that he thought there would be no proof. Afterwards he seemed thankful, but probably ashamed because Jesus commented that others that did not see and believed would be blessed.
4. Thomas was excited to see Jesus and after all Jesus had been through, it was wonderful for them to know Hw was alive.
