Acts: The Spread of the Gospel

This study is taken from John MacArthur's "Acts: The Spread of the Gospel." My prayer and goal for this devo is that we will learn more about how the early church laid the foundation for what we possess today, and that we would allow God to use us to turn our world upside for Him!

This will be an exciting journey, so encourage others to join you! I'm looking forward to the interaction we will have on this blog as we study the book of Acts!

The devos will differ in format from day to day, but two things are constant: 1) a daily reading, and 2) additional Scripture passages that are in bold. Be sure to read any and all of the readings/bold verses that appear so that you can see the full picture of what is taught that day.

Remember, you can access any of the previous devos that have been posted from the "Blog Archive" section on the left side of this page.

Joseph's Early Years - Obedience: Quickly, Sweetly, and Completely - Devo for 09/17/08

Reading
Genesis 37:12-17

Questions
1. Read Deuteronomy 11:26-28. What does God give if ye obey?
2. What does God promise if ye will not obey?
3. Explain how teenagers who obey quickly, sweetly, and completely can be a blessing to their parents, to their teachers, and to their employers.
4. Now explain how disobedience, or even compliance with a rotten attitude, can cause great heartache and grief at home, at school, at church, or at work.

If you learn to obey quickly, sweetly, and completely as a child or teenager, then when you are faced with God's commands in your life as an adult, you can, with confidence, obey God...QUICKLY, SWEETLY, AND COMPLETELY.

1. A blessing if you obey.
2. A curse if you will not obey.
3. Teens who obey quickly, sweetly, and completely can be given tasks without the authority having to stand over them. Also, that kind of obedience builds trust and credibility in the mind of the authority relating to the teen, and allows the authority to focus on other projects or people that need more attention.
4. When a teen is disobedient and has a poor attitude, there is an unnecessary tension that seems to exist. It causes the authority to question the motives of the teen, even if the teen, at that moment, is doing something right. It also causes the authority to wonder if the teen is going to cause more problems, which can cause great distraction.
