Acts: The Spread of the Gospel

This study is taken from John MacArthur's "Acts: The Spread of the Gospel." My prayer and goal for this devo is that we will learn more about how the early church laid the foundation for what we possess today, and that we would allow God to use us to turn our world upside for Him!

This will be an exciting journey, so encourage others to join you! I'm looking forward to the interaction we will have on this blog as we study the book of Acts!

The devos will differ in format from day to day, but two things are constant: 1) a daily reading, and 2) additional Scripture passages that are in bold. Be sure to read any and all of the readings/bold verses that appear so that you can see the full picture of what is taught that day.

Remember, you can access any of the previous devos that have been posted from the "Blog Archive" section on the left side of this page.

Chapter Two - The Reality of God's Supremacy - Devo for 10/27/08

Sorry about the late posting of today and tomorrow's devo's...it's been a crazy two days! Thanks to those who felt comfortable sharing their prayer for what they want God to do in their lives during this Bible Study. For those of you who felt uncomfortable publicly posting such a prayer, please write your prayer down at home and keep it...we want you to be able to go back and look at the prayer when the study is done and see how you've allowed the Lord to answer that prayer!

READING
2 Corinthians 4:16-18

QUESTIONS
1. How do you think God renews our "inward man" day by day?
2. What does the last phrase of verse 18 ("for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal") mean in your own words?
3. When are you most tempted to look at the "temporal" things in your life instead of the "eternal?" [for example, I, Janette, have a hard time remembering to look at the "eternal" perspective when I get frustrated with my boys...their immediate behavior - "temporal" - annoys me at times, and I get frustrated, instead of seeing them as two souls that need to be taught about a Savior that can change their hearts.)

1.he lays what he wants us to know on our hearts and uses everyday situations that we face to teach us, and when we repent (which for me is usually more than once a day lol) he wipes our boards clean and we learn from those mistakes.

2.what we see is not going to last forever, its going to fade away, but ou souls everyones souls are going to last forever even after we die.

1.by refreshing our minds and hearts with the word daily.

2.things on this earth that have value will mean nothing when we get to heaven.

1. The Holy Spirit convicts us of what we have done and then we repent and God washes the sins we repent of away, which gives us a new and refreshed feeling of satisfaction.
2. What we can see here on earth is just here for a short time, but the things that we cannot see like Heaven and God and Satan are going to be around forever (man that seems like a long time).
3. When I see something at the mall or a store, but it is too expensive I just think how much i want it instead of thinking ahead like a month to where it would just be sitting in my closet. Also when my brothers get on my nerves.
