Acts: The Spread of the Gospel

This study is taken from John MacArthur's "Acts: The Spread of the Gospel." My prayer and goal for this devo is that we will learn more about how the early church laid the foundation for what we possess today, and that we would allow God to use us to turn our world upside for Him!

This will be an exciting journey, so encourage others to join you! I'm looking forward to the interaction we will have on this blog as we study the book of Acts!

The devos will differ in format from day to day, but two things are constant: 1) a daily reading, and 2) additional Scripture passages that are in bold. Be sure to read any and all of the readings/bold verses that appear so that you can see the full picture of what is taught that day.

Remember, you can access any of the previous devos that have been posted from the "Blog Archive" section on the left side of this page.

Back from the Dead - Part 3 - Devo for 06/07/08

Reading
John 11:38-57

Responsive Questions
1. How would you explain the fact that the people who saw the same miracle responded in two totally different ways?
2. What does this account reveal about the value of miracles alone for bringing people to faith in Christ?
3. In what ways will this chapter change the way you respond to personal difficulty or the apparent delay of God?
4. How will it change the way you pray for those who are going through difficult situations?

Applying Chapter 11 in Your Life
Focus on a specific situation in your life or in a friend's life that you need to trust God to work out. Write the need on a card or in your journal, and begin to pray about it. Keep a record of how God works.

Responsive Questions
1. Belief effects our vision!
2. Miracles can't produce faith...can only point the way. It is one's choice to put faith in Jesus Christ for eternal life.
3. I am dealing with this now...seeing God delay two, no three, very big things in our lives. For one of the situations, the pain of watching Him not step in to change the situation is almost unbearable. But I have been clinging to this passage (specifically verse 4 every since we read it the other day) that His delay means He intends to get glory through the suffering we are enduring. If that is the case, then I can wait on Him!
4. I have been praying for family that is in the sitation I spoke of in #3, and for other families in similar situations. Now I am praying that the Lord will be glorified in each situation. That He will be allowed to do His work in His way in His time.

Application: Been doing that!
