Acts: The Spread of the Gospel

This study is taken from John MacArthur's "Acts: The Spread of the Gospel." My prayer and goal for this devo is that we will learn more about how the early church laid the foundation for what we possess today, and that we would allow God to use us to turn our world upside for Him!

This will be an exciting journey, so encourage others to join you! I'm looking forward to the interaction we will have on this blog as we study the book of Acts!

The devos will differ in format from day to day, but two things are constant: 1) a daily reading, and 2) additional Scripture passages that are in bold. Be sure to read any and all of the readings/bold verses that appear so that you can see the full picture of what is taught that day.

Remember, you can access any of the previous devos that have been posted from the "Blog Archive" section on the left side of this page.

Responsive Questions
1. Jesus states that the abiding vine produces fruit. What does this mean and how does this look in a person's life?
2. The Father's ministry as the gardener is to remove the branches that do not produce fruit (v. 2). What is Jesus saying?
3. The Father prunes fruitful branches to make them more fruitful (v. 2). In what ways have you experienced the Father's "pruning," and what were the results?

1. This means that if we have a good relationship with God and do as He tells us to, we will have fruit and be successful christians. We need to live the way He wants us to, read our bibles, pray, etc.

2. That if we don't produce any fruit, if we are not good christians, God will stop blessing us and helping us grow spiritually ( there will be punishment).

3. By many trials, they have helped me grow more spiritually and also helped develop things like patience, effort, etc.

1. That Jesus will be seen thru is and we will bring others to Jesus. Our lives will represent what Christ wants us to be.
2. Be sold out for Christ, do not be in the middle and wavering. Live for Him and not in the world.
3. God sometimes has to get my attention through difficult situations and convicting my heart through a sermon, something someone says, a song etc. God can speak to us in so many ways. My problem is that I don't always listen. There have been times in church when I know I should go forward at invitation because I felt like the sermon was directed right to me, and I didn't. I need to be more bold in areas like that.
